History

There was a time in Karachi when government decided to start a railway system for only Karachi

This project was consists of 20 stations of Karachi and this track was laid around Karachi . The length of KCR was approximately about 39 KMs .

The population of Karachi was about 10 Million at that time

In octuber , 1979 KCR was inaugurated by Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Zia ul Haq 

This project was consists of 21 trains and passengers capacity was about of 1500 people at a time 

In 2011 , Prime minister Yousaf Raza Gillani ordered to close KCR. This was a dark time for Pakistan railways because more than 243 trains were closed . More than 409 locomotives were announced as useless . 

In time of Nawaz Sharif , KCR didn't attained any attention

Now Prime Minister Imran Khan announced 1.5 Billion dollars for rehablitation of KCR

This rehablitation process is consists of three 3 phases

1st phase

The first phase contains the rehablitation of 14 kilometers of the track and opening of about more than 8 trains which are different in design from other express trains of P.R

2nd phase

Second phase contains the rehablitation of more than 9 kilometers of track of KCR . More than 5 new trains will also be open in 2nd phase

3rd phase

The third phase contain the rehablitation of 12 kilometers of track of KCR . The 3rd phase is final phase and more than 27 train will opened on inauguration of complete project .

Now the first phase is completed almost about more than 12 kilometers . 4 trains are ready and GMU 30 locomotive is painted as design of coaches of KCR 

The inauguration is supposed to be held on 31 , December , 2020 at 12:00am as the celebration of NEW YEAR
